How I began my love for crochet
Hey guys it has been a while.
Guys I am sorry it has been so long since I last posted on my blog. Life got in the way. As many of us have been busy with homeschooling our children and keeping up with life as it seems to be now. But I am ready to get back to do doing things that I love to do. Today I wanted to share with you my love of crochet. I know up until now my post have been more about knitting, but crochet was my first love. It was stepping stone that lead me on to knitting. I hope you enjoy the post. Grab that cup of coffee or beverage of your choice and read my story. I hope it was inspire you or at least encourage you to not give up.
I love to crochet as the gif says. I have always been interested in it since I was a little girl and I watched a neighbor make afghans, and ponchos. But it wasn't until I was about 27 years old that I picked up a hook and started. I was pregnant with my third daughter and I wanted to make a baby blanket for her. So I went to Walmart and I chose a pattern book that had several baby blankets in it, but there was one that I loved that had all these small 2" granny squares in it. I bought the hook the pattern said I needed and the yarn I would need. I was so excited. I rushed home and couldn't wait to get started. But as you can imagine it wasn't working for me. I couldn't understand the pattern. What was all those symbols and abbreviations in the pattern? So I got upset and quit.
Then one day I was in the yard with my daughters and a neighbor walked over with her children and we started talking. In the conversation I said to her I wanted to make this blanket but I just couldn't seem to understand how to do it. She said to me I been crocheting since I was a little girl, my mother taught me. Bring your yarn, hook and book over and I will show you how to do it.
So I rushed in the house grabbed my materials I would need and headed for her house. Can you imagine my excitement. She sat on the couch with me and showed me how to make my first granny square. She also explained to me how to use the pattern. The symbols, all the abbreviations, etc. So that was my first project. The baby blanket for my daughter.
Then I discovered YouTube and the large number of tutorials that was popping up all over the internet. So I was up and flying then. I have now been crocheting for over 25 years. And I love every minute of it. I have crocheted afghans, baby blankets, potholders, hats, towel holders, etc.
I love sharing my love for crocheting. The smiles on a customers face when I hand them a baby blanket or afghan I have made for them, fills my soul. I can't explaining the feeling of knowing they love it as much as I do.
Do you crochet? If so what is some of the things you have made? Share your story with others, you never know it might inspire them to take that step to learn a new craft.
